ZUCZUG, founded in 2002 in Shanghai, is a multi-brand platform rooted in exploring contemporary ways of living.
In 2024, as ZUCZUG marks its 22nd anniversary, we launch ZUCZUG 22 Longer-Lifespan Product—a continued exploration into sustainability. Anchored in co-building, we step out of the fashion industry to work together with partners across various fields engaged in sustainable and social welfare projects, co-developing longer-lasting products. Over two decades of practice have continually reminded us to stay attuned to the lived experience of everyday life and work, and to revive our sensitivity in the process of making and developing.
‘22’ is a number representing time, while the digit “2” symbolizes the intersection of two ends—balancing the consumer society and the natural world, linking industrial-scale production with individual, hands-on practice. We believe that true sustainable balance can be achieved through design and collaboration across seemingly opposing ends.
Dongji Qingbang Island:From Beachcombing to Clothing
‘From Beachcombing to Clothing’ is ZUCZUG 22’s first long-cycle collaborative project, launched in 2024. Developed in partnership with recycled polyester fabric manufacturer RETRAZE and the Qingbang Island Public Welfare Initiative, the project engages in on-site practices throughout the entire process. Using discarded plastic bottles collected on Dongji Qingbang Island, ZUCZUG 22 designed 100% recycled polyester fabrics and developed functional apparel suitable for everyday wear and labor-intensive activities.
